This Sultani rug features deep indigo with touches of steel blue, and scattered floral elements that appear as if they were created with faint pigments on an aged fabric. The artwork seems open and subtle, featuring gentle vine designs complemented by dramatic elements that attract attention slowly. The soft tonal variations achieved through wool yarns make this piece look like it had time to develop its colors.
Inspired by the classical Sultani style, the rug carries the characteristics typical of garden-themed works of art produced by ancient Persian and Central Asian weaving masters, although in the case of the artwork presented it was made using darker shades. Created manually over a period of three months in the region of Andkhoy, Afghanistan, the rug was hand-spun and dyed using natural materials.
The dark blues of the Sultani rug fit best with calm and cozy settings – libraries, home offices or bedrooms furnished with wood, linen and other fabrics of similar color.
