The design of Waziri Sand consists of an airy field of softly ivory tones with rose hues mixed with sage and faded terracotta colors alongside touches of dark indigo. The design’s geometric repeats provide a harmonious rhythm on the surface of the rug, creating an impression of calm order enhanced by irregular elements typical of hand-woven textiles.
Based on the principles of classic Waziri weaving, the pattern embodies the symmetrical graphic style of tribal carpets, but in a subtler way, inspired by historical Afghan designs. Six months of work on the hand-knotted piece in Andkhoy, Afghanistan, resulted in a rug composed of wool yarn dyed with natural pigments.
With its elongated shape and gentle color combinations, the rug makes the perfect accent for cozy spaces such as small rooms, bedroom interiors and places where wooden furniture, plastered walls, linen and other subtle materials dominate.
