The Imperial Atlas rug begins with an expansive midnight blue base, enlivened by layers of rust, creamy ivory, and soft minerals, giving it a sense of luminosity. It is both detailed and balanced, with geometric medallions, tribally inspired patterns, and borders set up in such a harmonious fashion as to evoke the feel of a story well-told.
Inspired by the motifs of central Asia and the Caucasus rugs, the design has the energy of a nomadic creation, as well as hints of architecture, without ever feeling stiff or overly formal. Made over the course of about a year in the region of Aqcha in Afghanistan, the rug is made out of spun wool, naturally dyed, and hand-knotted.
It works well in grounded spaces, including the warm, layered living rooms, studies, and dining rooms, especially where there are rich materials like wood and stone.
