The tone of Mamluk Slate is more subdued, with the delicate charcoal framing an area of desaturated blue and garnet, combined with mineral green. It’s less of a stark difference and more about letting the geometric designs develop through texture and washed colors. There seems to be a quality of depth in the surface – weathered, serene, and slightly glowing.
Drawing inspiration from the timeless symmetrical designs found in Mamluk carpets, the composition is a fine balance between ornate patterns and open spaces, making the piece both architecturally solid and organic in feel. Five months in the making, this hand-knotted rug was crafted in Afghanistan using hand-spun wool dyed in natural hues.
Its small size and neutral coloring make it especially perfect for smaller rooms with warm natural elements – dark woods, soft linens, and well-loved antiques.
