The Safavid Sky is imbued with the quiet grace of an ancient palace carpet, composed of delicate hues of storm blue, faded terracotta, deep indigo, and pale ivory. The field is populated with a rich variety of geometric floral patterns and medallions that flow gently across the surface, as if floating on an unseen current, set against the elegant border of the design which provides a sense of perfect balance to the work. Each change in color has depth and nuance.
The Safavid Sky incorporates subtle references to traditional Safavid weaving motifs, combining a wealth of ornamental elements in a restrained fashion typical of the genre. Hand-woven in Afghanistan in the region of Aqcha for more than fourteen and a half months from hand-spun wool yarns with natural dyes, the rug is rich with color and texture.
It would fit perfectly into any elegant space defined by the presence of wooden furniture, textiles, stone, and collected artifacts.
