The Tabriz Zafir displays a depth that emanates from the rich use of the dark saturated sapphire blue against the soft ivory and sand hues within an elaborate pattern of florals. The sweeping medallion and the elaborate borders create movement, guiding the viewer gently through the carpet with ease. Although the details are numerous, the colors used are not overly bold, with delicate tonal shifts lending a softness to the piece.
Taking inspiration from classic designs found within the art of Tabriz weaving, this particular carpet highlights a sense of refined balance and floral patterns, which have historically been used in Persian court carpets. The hand-knotted rug was made using hand spun wool and natural dyes over thirteen and a half months in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Given its dimensions and luminescent colors, the carpet would be best suited for large interior spaces including dining areas and living rooms, or those defined by walnut wood furniture, plaster walls, and linen.
